Speed tests use Cloudflare’s speed test network. The result is a snapshot, not a guarantee of your internet plan’s maximum speed.
Set up a fair test, understand the result and spot common causes of low readings.

Read the guide →Plan for streaming, video calls and multiple devices with realistic headroom.
Read the guide →Download speed is how quickly data reaches your device. Upload speed is how quickly it can send data. Both affect everyday use: streaming relies mostly on download, while video calls, sending files and cloud backups also need upload capacity.
Ping is the time a small request takes to travel to a server and back, measured in milliseconds. Jitter describes changes between ping readings. Lower, steadier latency is usually more noticeable for gaming and live calls than a high download number alone.
Speed requirements depend on the app, video quality, number of active devices and how much other work is happening on your network. See practical speed guidance for streaming and calls.
SpeedScan moves real data to and from Cloudflare’s network over several parallel connections. It drops the first ping request and excludes the initial download warm-up; the upload measurement runs for a fixed interval. Wi-Fi quality, other devices on your network, your device and the route to the test server affect the result. For a comparison of your internet service, test over Ethernet and close other apps.
Plans advertise maximum speeds. Wi-Fi interference, VPNs, busy evening hours and older routers commonly cut what a single device sees.
Weather and air quality data come from Open-Meteo. The weather forecast is based on national models, and the air-quality service uses the CAMS atmospheric composition model for the location estimate shown on the page.
This site has no account or database-backed result history, and it does not upload test results to a SpeedScan app server. Recent results are saved in this browser’s local storage. Approximate location is looked up through ipwho.is, with ipapi.co as a fallback. The location estimate—or precise coordinates if you opt in—is sent from your browser to Open-Meteo for local weather and air quality. If you choose precise location, coordinates are also sent to BigDataCloud to resolve a place name. The speed test connects to Cloudflare. Google Tag Manager is installed and can load the tags configured in the SpeedScan container; what those tags collect depends on that configuration. These requests go directly from your browser to the named providers, which receive the network information needed to answer. Website hosting may also log normal page requests. You can clear browser storage to remove saved results.
